FC Abbey Meads had to come from behind early on to clinch victory against Chiseldon in the North Wilts Youth League U18 Cup Final at the County Ground.
Chiseldon’s Matthew Moynihan gave Chiseldon the lead on six minutes when his low, long-range free-kick caught out the Abbey Meads defence and sneaked in at the far post.
Abbey Meads though hit back immediately when Jordan Lea scored with a neat header just a minute after the restart.
Lea then tested Chiseldon keeper Calli Smith on 12 minutes before a treble block by the Chiseldon defence kept Abbey Meads form scoring a second goal.
Thomas Miller did give Abbey Meads the advantage on 17 minutes with a superb glancing header but 10 minutes later Chiseldon were level, Moynihan stepping up again to convert another free-kick, this one creeping under the jumping wall and in off the far post.
After the break Matthew Grabe went close for Abbey Meads before Lea grabbed his second of the game, tapping home after a scramble from a corner on the hour to make it 3-2.
With five minutes remaining Abbey’s Kyle Parker went close with a curling shot while Chiseldon’s Bolton Fernandez almost unlocked the opposition defence on 78 minutes.
Pushing for another equaliser, Chiseldon almost capitalised on a mistake by the Abbey Meads keeper, his clearance landing to Benjamin Powell who was closed down before he could get a shot off.
Moments later Abbey Meads clinched victory, Matthew Grabe slotting a superb through ball which sliced through the Chiseldon defence and allowed Kyle Chambers to curl home the winner.
