Your Sport Swindon, the popular local sports website, is planning on providing even more coverage for the North Wilts Youth Football League thanks to its decision to go subscription only.
While the introduction of a subscription fee to view the content on the website marks the end of free content on Your Sport Swindon, the expected revenue into the company means their team will be able to cover even more sport.
Your Sport Swindon has been a media partner of the North Wilts Youth Football League since 2016 having covered each and every Final of the League Cup.
Their coverage has seen every moment of each cup final captured on camera with players and managers also being put in the spotlight with “Premier League” style post-match interviews.
In recent years, Your Sport has sponsored the Under 13 League Cup and has also committed to doing it again this season.
Your Sport’s subscription fee starts at just £2.50 per month and you can also grab two month’s free when you pay up front for the year, priced at £25.
While a selection of this season’s League Cup matches will be covered by Your Sport Swindon, the company also wants to offer clubs the chance to get their league matches covered too.
Teams can request to have their matches covered and the team will diary in everything they can.
Clubs can also approach Your Sport Swindon to get the majority, if not all of their matches covered by signing up to a group subscription.
So far, the subscription fee which was launched in August has been well received by Your Sport’s regular viewers and managing director Steve Butt believes it is the next step to taking their coverage of local sport to the next level.
“Making the move to go subscription only was a tough decision to make,” said Steve.
“We were struggling to keep our coverage going before COVID let alone during it.
Attracting businesses to advertise and sponsor us has always been difficult and we lost around 70 per cent of our revenue overnight because of COVID.
We’re fortunate to still be around and now I want to take it to the next level.
The subscription fee, if supported, will enable us to cover more local sport and youth football is an area that I want to give unprecedented coverage too.
No other media outlet in the town is covering grassroots sport like we do but we only survive thanks to our loyal sponsors and our band of volunteers.
The subscription fee will enable us to pay our volunteers and also employ more people to cover even more matches.
I’m incredibly community focused and believe that we should all be working together to help us through these tough times. Hopefully Your Sport Swindon can play its part.
The short-term plan is for the subscriptions to preserve our future but after that I want Your Sport Swindon to make a big difference within the community by sponsoring clubs, sports people and helping those in need.
We are already part of the government’s Kickstart Scheme and have employed two youngsters to date. If they excel with us then we want to be in a position to offer them a career with us moving forward. Once again, the subscriptions will play a huge part in allowing us to do that.
Fingers-crossed everyone who enjoys our coverage can support our subscription and in the long run, local sport and in particularly youth football will be the ultimate winner.”
